There's another joke about Behaviorism that I heard from a Psychologist. There was a Psychologist who was doing Social Psychology at a Behaviorist dept. Someone asked him "What do you do, run two rats down a maze?" He said "Oh, nothing that complex".
I couldn't agree more with this. Science always starts simple and has to move forward, and discover what was too simple or just wrong.
The people I have locked up in boxes in the lab, however, might have to be let out if Trump takes away my NIH grant. Or if someone pulls the fire alarm again.
The best book on the death of Behaviorism is Bernard Baar's "Cognitive Revolution in Psychology". It's mostly interviews with Psychologists who gradually discovered that Behaviorism couldn't make sense out of what they were discovering in the lab.
